sjrussell: "Hey schweady!

I am looking to thru-hike the BRT soon and have been looking all over for a GPX of the route and luckily happened to come across this forum.

Would you mind sending it to me as well?

Thanks!

Steven - You caught me just in time, I'm finishing up packing for our fall trip - 5 nights in the mid Gunflint area. I dropped you an email attachment of the file.
Cheers!

schweady: "Kyle - I emailed you a .gpx file containing a track for the full Border Route and 21 other tracks of side trails, spurs, and portages, plus waypoints for 16 campgrounds, and 11 other overlooks and points of interest from a couple of personal trips in the Duncan/Rose and the Clearwater/Mountain areas.

There is also a gps forum on this site that has a lot of additional info.
"

How fitting of a thread! Was looking for these the other day. Schweady, could you share with me as well? My wife and I are also hoping to do the route this fall.

OgimaaBines, How many days are you planning to do the route in?

Schweady with the save! We are planning to do it in 7 days. A couple of the through-hike vids on YT mentioned that 5-6 days was a bit of a push, and we want to make sure we're not rushing/pushing or otherwise risking injury.

Just sent you an email with that .gpx file. Enjoy!
Sorry for the delay… just got back from a Mudro-Crooked Lake trip.

Anyone have a route or series of tracking points for the full Border Route Trail. The wife and I are going on foot this year and I'd love to upload a route into my Garmin map before we head out. I've got paper maps and other redundancies but enjoy those GPS routes when they're available. The BRT Association doesn't seem to have them and if Alltrails had them, it's behind a paywall.

Miigwech/Thanks!

MN_Lindsey: "Hello! I just did a thru hike of the BRT last fall. Go to your App Store on your phone, and download the Border Route Trail app!

It’s got a map, campsites (with descriptions of the campsites) as well as spots where you can easily get water.

I HIGHLY recommend this app. We also used Gaia, Avenza, and All Trails because at times the trail gets a little confusing.

What direction are you going? "

Thanks all. We ended up doing about 50 miles of the BRT west to East in August over 5 days. It was my wife Misha and I, and our friends Joe and Karen who are also married. Karen's knee went out (hikers knee) on day two so we decided to pull up short on the second day at topper lake and walk them out to a requested pickup on the east side of Mayhew the morning after. We stayed at clearwater lodge that night. They took my truck to Grand Marais that morning and my wife and I picked up the trail from Clearwater. We didn't want to stay on the trail at the west end of Gogebic so we bushwhacked down to the eastern site which is typically a canoe-in site. It's a peach of a site and we made some good miles to McFarland where we met Joe and Karen. It's a truly rugged trail, often times overgrown and impossible to see your feet so Misha fell a few times, rolling her ankle. She was tougher than I knew and kept plugging along but we decided to end the hike at Mcfarland due to the injuries and an impending thunderstorm. Hopefully I'll kick out a trip report this winter. Bummer to miss rose lake overlook and the last section but we'll knock those out in the years to come. Thanks again all for the gps guidance. We didn't get off-trail once!
