My main solo this year will be 15-16 nights in August, Carp entry through Man Chain, Falls Chain to Kawnipi, and back down through Agnes, with some side trips TBD. I'm also planning two 4-5 night solos, one in early July through Meeds, and in late September through Mudro. I might also do a 3 day trip in the next couple of weeks somewhere in the Ely area.

Doing the Border Route Challenge again. Starting at LIS north to avoid having to paddle on Rainy Lake. That's it for solos, other than the Suwannee River 230.

Headed into Lizz Lake EP mid-Sept. solo unless I find a beast of burden/babysitter.;) Been aging a lot quicker since the heart attack . . .

Might sneak one in late April, BWCA or Quetico.
And then I'll find a week+ to solo at some point in the later summer or even in early fall (did that last year & loved it)...likely WCPP or Wabakimi.
I spent too much time this winter doing custom outfitting on my primary solo - feel obligated to get it into the wilderness!

Watching the ice out and forecast while hoping for a quick 3 day/2 night solo through Lake One for one of the last 2 weekends in April.
This would be my first April entry and I’m stoked. My earliest entry was early May before fishing opener (twice) and those were my 2 favorite trips. I loved watching the woods coming to life right after ice out and there isn’t anyone else around.
Hoping this can be an additional solo this year instead of replacing my October solo.

I decided to not do a solo BWCA trip this year. Putting my focus on a couple ultra marathon canoe races: Suwannee River 230 and Mississippi 150 along with a couple shorter events. I will get out on a family BWCA trip in August.

I was lucky to get a #14 LIS permit for 6/10. I’m hoping to base on Lynx and do some fishing and exploring area lakes.

Depending on what my buddy wants to do, I might be going to Killarney Park instead, hopefully for two weeks.

Normally more chatter on the solo forum.
When and where are you all headed? My solo this year is Quetico to Sarah Lake in late July. I ride up with my son and split up at shortly after leaving Prairie Portage. I can’t wait to go. My first solo was 56 years ago so the sand has just about left the hour glass.

I doubt I will solo this year, I will be volunteering for the Tofte and Gunflint RD's again this year helping the BWCA rangers. I will only do it half time, 8 days per month. Last year (full time) was too much of a commitment for this now 61 year old.

Not sure if I will get up north for a solo this year. Opportunities are limited for trips, and I think I'd rather go with my son, who is completely hooked after two times going up there.

It'd be great to see you again, Pete. It looked like we might connect a few times, but never worked out. Are you retired yet?

I'll probably get into at least McAree in the next 2 weeks or so. Then a solo or two in BWCA and Q in May/June. There's a group solo I'll connect with in late June after my Stanton Bay entry. My August is wide open so I'll see how that shakes out. I may be doing a day or two out east on the Erie Canal with someone else who is traversing the entire route in September. There is also the border route challenge in early September, but I'll just do a section. That last one will be interesting as weather tends to throw a curveball around that time of the year. Keepin' busy....

Problems with my shoulders and hands have limited my paddling the past three years and coming out of the winter I had little confidence I could paddle more than an hour without flare ups. I got out the first time Sunday and was able to go again Wednesday. Gear sale is put off another year! Now I start planning...

Only one trip planned this fall doing a solo for the first time. Be the first trip in 28 years I don’t have Grandpa to go with. Been checking permits and might find something for a quick trip this summer with someone. I miss the top water smallmouth bite. Spent the last two days in the woods chasing turkeys with my 8 and 10 year old boys. 1/2 on punching tags with 3 shots taken. (Can’t blame the caller haha) Safe to say the boys are hooked. The first morning the birds followed the script and gave us all quite the show. It was awesome.
The one bird we did get was a beautiful stud Tom. Have until the 31st of May to get the other tag filled. Hopeful we can get the second one punched and maybe I can whack one with the bow after that.

I’m hoping to go to Quetico at the end of August for 9 nights. I’ll see if I can do a loop or more of a base camp around Kahshahpiwi. The reasoning is I’m hoping to bring the new pup. He will be 9 months old so how he behaves will determine my trip.
Ideally I’d like to go through north bay to yum yum then Kahsh over to sarah and into basswood and out. Lots of variables with the new boy hanging around.

I will be doing my normal three week trip in late August commencing in Beaverhouse going south as far as Kawnipi and then back north to Nym. My two concerns are the predicted low water levels and the observation of several burnt out areas.

Just spent 3 days on Lake One with my dog Echo and we had a great time. Hopefully I get an October solo in as well.

Good luck with the new pup. I hope you have a great new tripping partner. . Echo did his first trip at 9 months old. He just did another trip with me this weekend at age 12 and I’m not sure how many he has left. Our other dog Yogi is 5 and he didn’t make it as a canoe dog. Echo is about as good of a canoe dog as you can ask for and Yogi is probably as bad as it gets. LOL.
