There have been a number of screen tarp/screen tent discussions lately, along with links to sale ads (NoBugZone in particular), but I never jump on them since I'd rather not add another 5 pounds to the kit. We sleep in a tent and set up a CCS tarp (1.1 oz 10x14), which has suited us quite fine. But this year's trip is in July and I often get to thinking about trying to stay up later in the evening with just Picaridin and head nets as our bug defense once again.

Has anyone successfully fashioned netting that works well under a CCS tarp? Hopefully, a system that would be easy to add or leave home as needed for trips in different seasons.

I think what I did works pretty well. Bought enough bugnetting to go around the entire perimeter from JoAnns. My bugnetting attaches to the tarp using snaps. The snaps are spaced about 2 feet apart. Makes it completely removeable. These are the snaps - they are typically on baby clothes.

Youtube channel Canoe the North uses netting under CCS tarp that he made. He uses the tarp and netting to sleep under too. I don,t think he brings tent. I believe he made the netting himself. You could look at a video to see how he attaches it. I looked and still not sure. Would need better close up pics. Also, you could ask him in comments or email him for more information. If you find out how he does it let us know.

I'm interested in but skeptical of his approach. I've watched many of his videos and if you look closely their gear gets wet during a hard or blowing rain.

I simplified it and just hang a big Sea to Summit bug net under the tarp. No snaps, tarp folds up separate, bug net goes in its stuff sack. You have to get a little creative in getting the 4 top corners of bug net stretched and tied to tarp lines but its not bad. 4-5 people on chairs fit in ok with a blue barrel card table.

I also hang a Sea to Summit bug net under my 10X12 ccs tarp. It’s light and packs small. I’ve done this setup a few times and it works great.

I purchased two of these to go under my 10x14 tarp. I use a hand full of bungee dealee bobs to fasten to the tarp. Works pretty well and light weight. Picture was a rough setup in the front yard.

MEKKAPRO Ultra Large Mosquito Net
RoPete34, I see that your product's listing contains the notice 'Frequently returned item'... Quality issue? Size, maybe? The price is fair enough...

cowdoc - What model is this? Maybe discontinued? On Sea to Summit's site, I don't see anything taller than 3.5-4 ft and more of a pup tent sized sleep shelter.

Not sure why. They don't come with any ropes or suspension system. They are pretty light weight and could tear easily, but all mosquito nets are similar. For the price I took a chance. They do fit nicely under my tarp.

Good question.....I looked also and don't see it. Its probably 10-12 years old. First pic was 2013 and not sure how old it was then. I'll dig it out and find a name

I bet CCS would sew you bug shelter that could attach to any of your tarps. Not sure what the cost would be. He sells the screen shelters but I would rather have them separate. I would say 8 ft by 8 ft and 6 foot tall would be perfect. I would want the bottom to have the nylon for anchoring, one door, attachment points around the top edges and an attachment point on top middle so you can tie it to their tarp pole pocket on tarp.

I second all the posts regarding buying an off the shelf bug net or 2 and hanging under your tarp. I have found that a few of white wiffle style golf balls and some paracord allow you to easily hang the net under your tarp.

I like the size and simplicity of this one for when mine wears out. But, I'm going to try to dye it black.....that white drives me nuts.

I actually did try to dye a white one black. Came out a light to medium gray.

I won't for the life of me remember who I saw the other day, but it was I believe a daughter mother show on youtube and they were testing dyes on fabrics. I tired of it quickly but you might be able to find an answer to dyeing white ones if you can sleuth them out.
