Great report! Love the macro photos, especially the dragonfly, you are talented. Seemed like a perfect trip...the swimming bear photos were special as well. I enjoyed your entire report.

Wonderful report, your photography is spectacular! We've always stopped at the South Arm but I think we're going to venture a little farther after reading your report.

Nice report Tim. Excellent photos as usual. You stayed at a few sites I've been to.....always loved the Cherry site. One night of rain was a small price to pay for all the great weather.

I've read a lot of great trip reports over the years - but this is one of my favorites! It was easy to follow along on your journey and the photography was simply outstanding. Thank you for all of your work putting this together. I especially enjoyed the photos of the bear (simply amazing) as well as the loon and her chick and the dragonfly. Waterfall and sunset pictures were fabulous!

Thanks - I really enjoyed your trip report, especially all the beautiful photos. I think the sunrise were my favorite, but many other great ones too. Also appreciate the gear reviews.

Great report - and I'm not done!
I'm looking for a name on the camp chairs? Can you give me a source on those?

Glad everyone is enjoying the report. It does take a good deal of time to put it together but for our relatives and friends that can't/ don't get to go to the Boundary Waters I try to make the report as close as possible to giving them the sense of what our experience was like.

Hi Karl,

Those are the Helinox chairs. Here is a link. .

We ordered ours through Moosejaw but it looks like there has been a price hike as I remember paying more like $80. Helinox Chair._

Fantastic trip report and photos. I agree with you on the subject of the Scouts should not have been doing something dangerous like that over the falls.

Wow, that was one of the best trip reports ever! I know where I am going next year! I'll just make you matching can holders now. winner in my book!

Great trip report and pictures. Was traveling that area just before you guys and stayed at that same campsite on Rabbit Lake after Ester and Hanson were full. Also thought that site was just fine and it was nice to have the lake to ourselves for two days. We found the turtle shell on a portage and left it for others to take a look at. Got a visit from a live snapper at that site who was interested in our stringer of fish. Managed to grab them before he got a free dinner though. Thanks again for the report.

Also, what site did you use for the maps that were in your trip report?

Thanks,

Very cool how the internet sometimes shrinks the world a little. You're quite welcome for the report and thanks for leaving some firewood. The maps are the old version of Garmin Mapsource. I leave the GPS on while traveling (one set of lithium batteries lasted the whole trip that way) so when I get home I download our actual track. So what you see on the map is exactly where we paddled. There is no .jpg export out of Mapsource so I take a screen shot, load it into Photoshop, crop it, and then add my arrows and labels. I'm sure there's a better way but this works out for me.

Great job. Since i had to cancel both options for a trip this year i'm eating these reports up like oreos and milk.
We went out tha t way through Somers Canoe base back in '88. The canoe photos with the stickers really brought back some good memories.
Thanks for taking the time to share.

An excellent trip report as usual Tim. Thank you very much for taking the time to put it all together. This area is on my list for a trip in either 2015 or 2016. I wish I had your talent for taking pictures.

I will have to look you up someday when I am at your place of employment. I teach JA classes there.

Thanks again.

Thanks for the great report! I have been to Knife many times with Girl Scouts but never beyond Thunder Point. Great information that makes me want to explore beyond :)
