What a trip Ben! Sounds like you and Bernie had one heck of a time. Good to see everything panned out for you on the trip.

Fantastic! Sounds like a great trip. How many reloads did you do on the trip, just one? How much weight did you have on day one?

Wow!!

Joy is a great teacher, but so is dispair. Wonder is a great teacher, but so is confusion. Hope is a great teacher, but so is disillusionment. And life is a great teacher, but so is death. To deny yourself any of those in any aspect is not experiencing life totally.

Stayed at the campsite of this springs yard sale on Iron... Somebody left a few items I couldn't portage out. And wow did the landing area look different with the lower water levels. Sunday Bay was noyhing as bad as this spring when we got wind bound, but it was trying.

Hope the job is working good for you Bumabu...

Hey Ben,

Brian from Ohio here. Glad you and Bernice are safe and sound. I enjoyed meeting you and am glad you came through the storm OK that evening. It was a pretty good one.

As promised, I posted on one of your message threads (the one titled "Gonna miss you guys") that you were doing well. Several folks responded that they were glad to hear you were OK.

Again, it was a pleasure meeting you.

Very nice trip! I'm glad the resupplys worked out for you. I'd love to do something like that with my dog someday. Speaking of dogs - did Bernice carry a pack? Did she eat her regular food or did you supplement with your leftovers? How did her feet do? I'm concerned about my border collie's feet with all the rocks.

I was coming into Finger lake on the 23rd from the west about 4:00PM. I wanted the site you were on but when I got close to the island I saw some movement. Someone was walking around there so I immediatley made a left turn and ended up checking out the three other open sites and settling on the one in back of you on the island. I had heard you say you would be in the area around that time and I'm kicking myself for not paddling up to the site. If I saw Bernice I sure would have. I was in a red solo with an orange bladed kayak paddle. Maybe you saw me.

Anyway, so glad for you that it was a success. That storm sounded pretty bad but they can be exciting too.

I'll have to get my trip journal back from my friend and see the date.

Bernice carried two packs until she was down to about six or seven days of food, then I only made her carry one. Her feet do fine and she is very active. I fed her 4 heaping cups of dog food per day plus a share of whatever I'm eating. Some days we were both wishing we had more. I'm glad I brought some puddings and extra food to pick us up once in a while. I had a couple chew bones for her for a special treat.

Ben and Bernice,

WOW nice trip, can't really fathom the experience it must have been, the folks you ran into, the lakes and portages you saw, the friends you made, the solitude and challenge.

nctry....you and Bernice are AWESOME!

P.S. Ben, I know another fella that spent "40 days in the Wilderness" and he prayed a lot also.

What an amazing adventure. And to have Bernice there to share it with is all the better.

Thanks for doing this trip and sharing it with us.

We all have to believe in something. I believe I'll go paddle.

Wow! That's all I can say. Other than, I can't wait until the day comes that I am capable of taking on an adventure like this.

Good to see you at Copia again this year. I don't think it would have taken you 40 days to recount your trip like SunCatcher said.

I wonder why they post signs for dogs since I don't believe they can read??? :) That would be awful to get your pet caught up in one of those traps though. Don't think I'd want to run into one of those little yellow "fire" closing signs either.

I'm glad your trip worked out so well for you. I enjoyed the read and the pictures. Bernice is a beautiful travel partner.
